Norway – The Great Town of Oslo

Have you ever been in a scenario, where you couldn’t figure out which spot to visit next? My family and I kept switching back and forth between Amsterdam and Iceland for our up coming trip. And that’s when a random video popped up in my Facebook feed, a video about beautiful destinations around the world. On that list was Norway, a country we were not even thinking about. And when it showed those beautiful fjords, that’s when we knew it’s our next spot, and the first place we planned to visit is, the great town of Oslo!

With so many things to do in Oslo, we started making our way through the town. After checking out some stores and grabbing lunch, we headed to Frogner Park, the largest public park in central Oslo. Once inside, you can’t miss the Vigeland Sculpture Park, one of Oslo’s most popular attractions! I was truly amazed with all the beautiful art in the park, especially when I found out it is the world’s largest sculpture park made by a single artist that started back in the 1920’s. It is definitely a spot worth visiting if ever in Norway!

On to the next place in Oslo, the Viking Ship Museum! Now this is a spot I would not have checked out if it wasn’t for my sisters love of museums. I normally don’t visit them since I’d rather be outside seeing new views mother nature has given us. But I must admit, I am truly glad we went, as I have a better understanding of Vikings as well as being able to physically see the actual ships and weapons they used, including their tools. Although I can’t lie, I have always been very intrigued by Vikings and the history behind it. I even had people think it was in my family history, but I think that is more because of the beard, yeah it’s probably just the beard.

As our time in Oslo was ending, we wanted to visit one last spot before we left, the Ekebergparken Sculpture Park! A beautiful wooded hiking area of 25.5 acres filled with sculptures and panoramic views of the city. Being that it is still pretty new and only several years old, it was a great place to get my outdoors nature hike in as well as see some amazing art work, all while still being in the city. And the fact that these parks are always open and free, it is definitely on my must see list when visiting Oslo!

And that concludes our short stay in Oslo, as we have many spots to visit while in Norway. It was a great way to start our journey here, visiting the capital and most popular city in all of Norway. I loved experiencing it with my family as it’s always good times with them, even though it was only for a couple days, we had a blast with the places we checked out. Next on the list is Bergen, so stay tuned as we venture off to go see some fjords!
