Norway – Trip to the Fjords

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? There literally is so many places with so little time to visit them all, and being a photographer that loves creating travel videos, my passport is open. I follow a lot of other travel photographers and recently I see most of them all going to the same spot, Iceland. It is definitely on my list, but for this trip, I wanted to check out somewhere else. And it just so happened that a ‘Worlds Most Beautiful Destinations’ video popped up in my Facebook feed, and when they showed the Norway fjords, that’s when I knew our next spot!

After we flew in to Oslo (view our Oslo video here), we headed to a town called Bergen, which was suppose to only be a 7 hour road trip, but took us over 13 hours! Mostly thanks to me for wanting to stop at so many spots for photos and videos, but my family are troopers which I’m grateful for, and I did get a lot of great shots. Bergen is known for these beautiful colorful buildings at the beginning of some fjords, but it just so happened that the same day we got there, a huge running marathon was going on, right in front of the buildings. So I couldn’t get the shots I wanted, but it’s all good, as my mind was more on getting deeper into the fjords!

Driving on the edge through these mountains on both sides was truly breath taking, not to mention all the small towns we passed by. We were heading to Jostedalsbreen National Park, which is one of the largest Glaciers in Norway, and just driving there was half the adventure. With so many different types of landscapes and mountains, I had to limit myself on how many times I stopped for photos. At one point we were driving with green grass, and the next was up in snow filled mountain tops where our visibility was so low, we barely even saw the empty road in front of us!

As day turned into night, we had no idea where we were going to get a hotel, as these small towns were mostly closed down, and pretty far in between each other. And as we were sitting at one of the only opened gas stations around, we ended up finding an Air bnb cabin with views, but it was over an hour away. When we finally arrived, a man came out of his house and hopped on a bicycle and told us to follow him, and so we did, and continued to follow this guy in a deserted looking area on a dirt road for quite a bit. Not going to lie, it seemed very sketchy, being in another country, following some man on his bike to his air bnb cabin at night in the middle of nowhere. But when we got to the cabin, it was by far the most amazing spot we could have found, with breath taking lake views right off our front porch surrounded my mountains!

After spending about a week in Norway, I must say, it is by far my most favorite country I’ve visited so far. The views were spectacular, every where was so clean, no spilled trash, no road kill, the air was so refreshing, and the people, the people were some of the nicest folks I have ever met on any of my travels. Definitely a place I will visit again, and at some point all good things must come to an end, but in reality, it is just the beginning of our next adventure, as we head to visit our family in Greece. Hope you all enjoyed the photos and our ‘Norway – Trip to the Fjords’ video. Until the next time, stay positive friends, for life is too short not to make the best of every given day!
